The Response to the Cry of the Poor is a call to promote eco-justice and defend human life from conception to death, and all forms of life on Earth.
One of the seven Laudato Si’ Goals, the Response to the Cry of the Poor is everyone’s cry because of “the intimate relationship between the poor and the fragility of the planet,” the common home we all share. (LS 16)
As we consider ways to “seek to resolve the tragic effects of environmental degradation on the lives of the world’s poorest” (LS 13), you are warmly invited to:
- Learn more about how communities of Catholic organizations and other partners are responding to the cry of the poor.
- Read the reflections created by institutions that are creating Laudato Si’ Plans
- View heartfelt and engaging student videos on the Response to the Cry of the Poor and all the Laudato Si’ Goals, courtesy of University Pathways.
In solidarity with the world’s poor, we ask you to take a moment and join us in joyful hope with Pope Francis in prayer:
O God of the poor,
help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
so precious in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives,
that we may protect the world and not prey on it,
that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts
of those who look only for gain
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
to recognize that we are profoundly united
with every creature
as we journey towards your infinite light. (LS 246)
