Strategy and Mission Under Ecological Crisis: From Ricci and Laulanié to Today

We are delighted to offer a workshop for wisdom and faith-based communities to apply strategic thinking for developing practical responses to the socio-ecological crisis.

This online seminar, co-organised by the LSRI’s Integral Ecology Research Network (IERN) and the Jesuit Justice and Ecology Network for Africa (JENA), traces how faith-based leaders have used strategic thinking in their mission as a response to socio-ecological crises.
We will welcome Dr Adam Parr, entrepreneur and Research Associate at Hertford College, University of Oxford, to set the stage with historical examples from Matteo Ricci SJ to Henri de Laulanié SJ. Then, bringing in insights from contemporary practitioners, we will accompany participants in discerning the application of these strategies to their mission today. Participants will receive reading and other materials before the session.
In a spirit of dialogue and co-creation, the seminar will include a 30-minute applied workshop and an opportunity for live Q&A. IERN will also share updates and news on our work in Integral Agroecology, including the announcement of a forthcoming prize, named after Henri de Laulanié SJ.
This session renews the Down to Earth Dialogues, a LSRI/IERN series, which will be co-hosted by Dr Austen Ivereigh and Sr Mūmbi Kīgūtha CPPS. The series, to continue monthly from February 2026, will foster community and support the practice of Integral Agroecology. We welcome partnership and collaboration proposals for the Dialogues.
