The Laudato Si’ Action Platform has released its annual report for the year 2022-2023, marking a year of growth and profound impact in its commitment to integral ecology.
Over 8,000 institutions and families across 144 countries have enrolled in the Laudato Si’ Action Platform, collectively reaching an estimated 17 million people.
The annual report highlights significant strides in global participation, including the active involvement of 183 dioceses, 1,156 religious congregations, 966 schools, and 219 universities, all dedicated to implementing the holistic vision of Pope Francis’s 2015 encyclical Laudato Si’. This collective effort has collected over 750 resources from partner institutions to aid organizations, families, and individuals in their sustainable practices and ecological education.
Reflecting on the challenges ahead, Prefect for the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development Cardinal Michael Czerny, S.J. emphasized the need for cultural and personal shifts to address global ecological and humanitarian crises effectively. He remarked “…each small step represents a step closer to God, a deepening of our faith, a shedding of worldly baggage, a greater love for our siblings, and a better care for our common home.”
Sister Alessandra Smerilli, F.M.A, Secretary for the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development has also reiterated the synodal foundation of the platform’s mission, stating that it is “truly a prophetic sign that is forging new spirit-led pathways that respond to today’s ecological and social challenges with grace and concrete action, giving witness to the Catholic Church’s commitment to care for all of creation.”
The Laudato Si’ Action Platform’s achievements are not just in numbers but in the profound engagement and change inspired across the globe. As we move forward, the Church is invited to join in this crucial work, extending the call to action to new participants and encouraging ongoing commitment among current members.
